Child Protection: Working Together to Safeguard Children

Overview

In The Coalition: Our Programme for Government, the government outlines what actions it will take to improve the safeguarding of children. It states that it will publish serious case reviews, with identifying details removed and review the vetting and barring regime and scale it back to common sense levels.

On June 10th 2010, Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove wrote to Professor Eileen Munro to invite her to conduct an independent review of children’s social work and frontline child protection practice. Children’s Minister Tim Loughton and Professor Munro outlined the broad remit and length of the review which will look at how to remove the barriers and bureaucracy which prevent social workers spending valuable time with vulnerable children.

A tight financial climate requires partners and stakeholders to gain wider knowledge on what works best and where the most improvement can be achieved. It also places an even greater emphasis on rigorous, high quality local knowledge about the needs of children, young people, their families and carers in local communities, and in turn improving children and young people’s services.

This timely and informative forum will bring together all the key stakeholders and offer them an opportunity to discuss and examine the latest policy developments and guidance, share best practice and understand how to work together to strengthen safeguarding practices.
