Eddie Ritson Eddie Ritson has been working in the health service for over 20 years both in Northern Ireland and England. He worked in a variety of operational management, planning and commissioning roles with health authorities in Hertfordshire, before becoming Chief Executive there of a Primary Care Group. Eddie returned to Northern Ireland in 2001 to take up post as Director of Primary Care with one of the four Health & Social Services Boards and is currently on secondment to the post of Programme Director for Strategy Development with the European Centre for Connected Health in Belfast. |
Michael Dillon Michael is a member of the NHS CFH Assistive Technology Programme team looking at how telehealth equipment and services will be made available to NHS users and how the information captured will be shared across clinical communities. Michael is leading the NHS CFH engagement with the WSD pilots and work to develop information messaging standards for telehealth. |
Mike Clark Mike Clark leads on telecare and telehealth activities for the CSIP Networks Independent Living Choices programme. He is also involved in the recently announced network to disseminate learning from the White Paper Whole System Demonstrator programme in conjunction with the King’s Fund. CSIP Networks provides a wide range of support services for local authorities, primary care trusts and other organisations implementing telecare and telehealth on behalf of the Department of Health. |
Margaret Parton Margaret Parton was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the NHS Technology Adoption Centre in July 2007, spearheading this exciting venture to establish the first Technology Adoption Centre for the NHS in England in order to accelerate the adoption of proven innovative technologies in order to improve patient outcomes. Formally the Life Science Sector Champion for UK Trade and Investment, Margaret initially trained as a pharmacologist but has established an excellent track record in building collaborative programmes to develop and implement new technologies into the health care arena. Margaret brings all her enthusiasm and expertise to facilitate successful collaboration with industry, NHS clinicians and managers, commissioners and procurement organisations to ensure cohesive roll out of Technology Adoption Centre outputs. |
Dr Richard Curry Dr. Richard Curry is an independent consultant specialising in the application of advanced technologies to healthcare. He is currently Senior Scientific Advisor to the Department of Health’s Invention for Innovation programme and to the Department of Health’s Policy Research Programme research initiative on the role of technology in supporting chronic disease management, self care and healthy living. In his other consultancy activities he has worked with a number of NHS Trusts, District Councils and Charities helping them to implement technology adoption programmes. He is also a member of the Healthcare Management Group at Tanaka Business School, Imperial College London with an interest in the adoption of technology. Prior to working as a consultant he held senior management positions in the scientific instrument sector for over 20 years most recently with a videoconferencing company where he designed and installed the minimally invasive therapy training system based at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. |
Jeremy Blackman Jeremy has worked in Local Government for the past 33 years joining Kent County Council in 1985. While his grounding was in the areas of finance and information he has also worked in both contracting and planning. Since working for KCC he has been involved in a number of projects including the implementation of the community care act which brought about major changes in the responsibility for funding care for older people in the UK. He was also involved in integrating the social care side of mental health services with the NHS as well as developing an electronic invoicing and data matching system with the county’s Bankers. He has a Masters degree in Interprofesional Health and Social Studies and currently oversees the project managers for TeleHealth, Telecare and Electronic Self-Assessment as part of his role as Service Development and Projects Manager. Kent’s expertise in the area of assistive technology gained National recognition by being granted “Whole system demonstrator” status, a bid which he led and will now take forward to inform future Governmental direction on a National basis. |
Professor Ram Dhillon He has actively pursued his clinical career and has a special interests in sinofacial pain and voice disorders. His other major interest in medical education and he has developed numerous nationally accredited initiatives to improve deliver of patient care. These include postgraduate medical courses for GPs and Nurses (Diabetes, Cardiology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Medicine in the Older Person, Minor Surgery etc), He also has an interest in eTechnology. He is involved in projects which use the mobile phone as the key medium to promote self care and improve clinical outcomes in Long Term Conditions. This same medium can be employed to provide remote monitoring for 1000s of such patients enabling prevention of acute exacerbations/admissions. He was a National Clinical Lead for the NHS Modernisation Agency for the Elective Care Team and has latterly been a committee member for the "Heart Improvement Programme", which is defining the role of Practitioners with Special Interests. He lectures and presents regularly to PCTs, PBCs, GPs and other organisations such as the "National Association for Primary Care." Professor Dhillon lives in London, with his wife and 3 grown up children and a cat. His past times include marathon hiking, mountain biking and various racquet sports. |
Dr Jane Hendy Dr. Jane Hendy is a part of the Healthcare Management Group and member of the Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC) based at Imperial College Business School. Jane previously held positions at University College London, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has a PhD from the University of Surrey in Applied Health and Social Psychology. Jane’s research at Imperial focuses on organisational change and the adoption of innovations in health care. She is particularly interested in public policy initiatives and questions relating to ICT innovations in health services. Previous work on innovation included conducting the first in-depth exploration of the £12 billion NHS National Programme for Information Technology. This work, published in the British Medical Journal, was widely reported on in the media, and presented as written and oral evidence to the House of Commons Health Select Committee inquiry into Electronic Patient Records. Jane recently has been researching the national rollout of telecare services. Building on this work, Jane has now started work on the Department of Health ‘Whole System Demonstrators evaluation’. The evaluation is a government initiative to introduce technology based health and social care services to help support people with chronic conditions. Jane and her colleagues are investigating organisational factors underlying the successful and sustainable introduction of the new services. Jane has experience advising government on policy. She has recently advised the National Audit Office on the recent report ‘The National Programme for IT in the NHS: Progress since 2006.’ Jane is a member of the Department of Health’s Telecare Advisory Network, and has strong links with the Department of Health, Care Services Improvement Partnership – to regularly give advice on the national implementation of telecare. Jane has provided expert advice on telecare for Welsh Assembly Government. |
Stephen Durant I am the Telehealth Project Manager for Swindon PCT. I work in a consultancy capacity, and have worked in that manner for Swindon and Wiltshire PCTs for several years, running several major projects including OOH (which I set up in Wiltshire), and also both the Wiltshire and Swindon Wheelchair Services. I am married to a GP in Devizes. |
