It is a legal requirement for at least one individual within every school to be trained in safe recruitment. This one-day accredited course gives education staff the information and understanding they need to recruit safely and comply with relevant statutory guidance.

It is suitable for all individuals in the education sector who are involved in staff selection and is valid for five years.

Delegates on this accredited Safer Recruitment in Education course, led by Ann Marie Christian, will consider the issues through presentations, case studies and group discussion. Delegates will complete four modules and an eighteen-question multiple-choice assessment and receive a certificate of attendance and course completion if they score thirteen and over.

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Consider policies and practices that mitigate the risk of abuse and ensure its prompt reporting
  • Review your organisation’s policies and practices with a view to making them safer
  • On successful completion of the assessment you will receive an accredited certificate from the Safer Recruitment Consortium

Anne Marie Christian, Independent Education Safeguarding and Child Protection Consultant

Ann Marie has been working within children’s services and allied settings for over 20 years. She is a qualified social worker and has been specifically involved with safeguarding in education setting for 17 years. In that time she has undertaken a range of roles, including school based social worker, Social Work Team Manager. LADO, Safeguarding Consultant, LSCB Trainer, LSCB Committee member, school improvement advisor, and senior management responsibility for quality standards of safeguarding within local authority education departments, Independent schools and Children Social Care.

The Safer Recruitment Consortium is a partnership between organisations with the safety and wellbeing of children at their heart.

Ann Marie Christian, Dip SW

Ann Marie has been working within children’s services and allied settings for over 20 years. She is a qualified social worker and has been specifically involved with safeguarding in education setting for 17 years. In that time she has undertaken a range of roles, including school based social worker, Social Work Team Manager. LADO, Safeguarding Consultant, LSCB Trainer, LSCB Committee member, school improvement advisor, and senior management responsibility for quality standards of safeguarding within local authority education departments, Independent schools and Children Social Care.

She is an accredited NSPCC Child Protection Trainer and an accredited Safer Recruitment Trainer. Since 2010 she has been working independently as a safeguarding consultant and currently carries associate work with various bodies including ISI (Independent School Inspectorate) Consultancy, BSA (Boarding School Association), CCPAS (Church Child Protection Advisory Service), NSPCC, IAPS Independent Association for Prep Schools, COIS (Council of International Schools) various schools, Academy Trusts and Local Authorities.

Ann Marie delivers regular workshops at national and international conferences and contributes safeguarding articles to various journals for example, Head teachers Update, SEN Magazine, Optimus Education –Protecting Children, Boarding Schools Association publications and more.
